The Mentawai Islands are one of the most consistent surf destinations in the entire world. The power of southern Indian Ocean storms is turned by the prevailing SE trades towards these amazing islands and amplified. The result is surf that is remarkably consistent and of unsurpassed quality. During the southern hemisphere winter, (late April to early November) the Indian Ocean is an over-active, groundswell machine.
If you haven't had a chance to surf in the Mentawai's you will have seen it on video, in print, or heard about it from your friends. The place is simply "magic on a stick". The archipelago is sprinkled with picture perfect, glassy barrels that light up and fire in tune with the constantly changing equatorial winds and weather.

The other 12 waves are less than a 20 minute boat trip away. (Jauh, Facas and Shhh, are a little more than an hour away) And it doesn’t stop there! There are a number of reefs with a lot of potential that we haven’t even had time to explore… Maybe you will be the next to surf and name a virgin wave in 2009!

The Banyak islands archipelago lies a hundred miles to the west coast of Sumatra, north of Indonesia. It’s reached by boat some 12h of sailing from the home town of Sibolga.
Indonesia, with regular and consistent swells, is the most popular surf destination in the world. The Banyak islands are indeed a wave paradise. Its location facing the Indian ocean gives it powerful swells generated by low pressure systems throughout the Indian ocean.
Offering a variety of waves that have nothing to envy its famous neighbour the Mentawai archipelago, Banyak islands offer additional spot of world class but less crowded.
Surf Nias

For surfers, Nias is "Paradise on Earth". The 2005 earthquake has uplifted many reefs of the island, making surfing on the "Point", the legendry right-hander near Sorake, even more challenging and exciting than in the past!
However, surfing spots are only a slice of the wonders that Nias Island has to offer. The island's unique and exotic setting - an ancient megalithic culture in a rugged tropical landscape - is even more intriguingly wondrous. The islanders call their island Ono Niha or Land of the Niassan. And that is what it fully is; A world unto itself!
Though you might have heard some travel stories about Nias, describing the island as a place of impenetrable jungles and feared head-hunting raids, there is no need to worry coming face to face with head-hunters (except perhaps in cultural performances) as this practice was brought to an end in the beginning of the 20th century. The island's lush forests and virgin beaches provide a unique opportunity to experience a feeling of last frontier, a world beyond the equator.
The unique combination of an untouched tribal culture with arcane rites and untamed nature make the island a world class destination for adventurous eco-travellers, where you will be welcomed by the local Niassan with the call "Ya'ahowu" or "Hello"!
